Tasting 24 samples totally blind in December 2020, you can find more here. All notes except the very last few sentences are written before reveal. Disclaimer: These are all very small drams, around 1.5 cl each, so doing a proper tasting is challenging. I'll do my best!
1.3 (Russet muscat)
Nose
Peat, wax candles, hay, pineapple, honey. Lovely balance to the peat!
Palate
Heavy peat, underlying fresh fruits and incense.
Finish
Soft, iodine-leaning peat, dry, medium length.
Unusually complex peat beast, heavy but with fresh layers beneath. I'm no peathead, but this I can get behind!
Guess: I'm horrible at guessing peat, but probably a sherry finish. Also a bit dry, so could possibly be red wine casks as well.
Reveal: Ah, Laphroaig PX! I've had the newer version and liked it, so no surprise this was great as well.
Check out my other advent tastings!
