Sample tasted as part of a Glenmorangie tasting night for Burns night. This was a special bottling from glenmorangie using different barley, a single estate Cadboll variety and malted chocolate barley, to creat the bottling. Whiskeys up to 30 years old were used in this bottling. Tasting was done with Paul Malone who was part of the team to craft this whiskey which was really interesting
1.5 (Auburn / polished mahogany)
Nose
malty sweet, buttery shortbread, muted orange note, bit of clove
Palate
stick a load of cloves in an orange and set it on fire. Marmalade on Burnt toast. The buttery shortbread stays in which is great. Coats the mouth brilliantly. Maple syrup
Finish
really creamy finish, burnt orange an clove stays strong
There wasn't a moment where I doubted the tasting notes on this one, they hit you straight away and they're brilliant. Orange/clove/biscuit off tha bat and they do it well. It is a high price, I had a sample, so I think I'd hold fire on a whole bottle but if I'm at a bar, wanted something of quality, I wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger
