SMWS's January Bottle of the Month!
The tasting notes provided by SMWS for this bottle were somewhat accurate; my wife detected the ginger a lot more than I did, but she also cooks/eats a lot more ginger than I do...
Long story short, SMWS definitely knew what they were doing when they chose this cask for their bottle of the month!
0.5 (Yellow gold)
Nose
Vanilla custard, sweet florals, reminds me of Louisiana in spring, very little ethanol on the nose for 60% ABV
Palate
Gooey butter cake, hints of lemon zest, rum cake, vanillas from the bourbon barrel shine through
Finish
Medium-long lingering finish, tannins from the barrel influence show up towards the end along with hints of barrel char and spice
This whisky absolutely shines well beyond its age, with a thick viscosity that surprisingly drinks well below its proof. If I were tasting this blind I'd guess it was in the 13-15 age range given its drinkability compared to proof.
Another great barrel from SMWS!
