After a few IBs and a barrel pick it's time we reviewed an OB! So what better OB than the one that was my introduction to Campbeltown whisky with the Springbank 15!
I know Springbank is notorious for some pretty substantial variance between bottlings, and I'm happy to report that I got a phenomenal one!
1.4 (Tawny)
Nose
Glacéed apricots, grilled apples, muddy/earthy field, light ethanol with a sweetness as it tails off
Palate
Medium/thick mouthfeel, smoky stone fruit, light peat on retrohale, just a beautifully balanced dram from smoke to sweet
Finish
Long, warm embrace; exceptional transition from malty to sweet to smoky which has you reaching for the bottle to pour some more
Just a wonderful dram. Wonderful balance between sweet and smoky with a great mouthfeel and a loooong finish.
Given I've set my standard for the difference between "Good" and "Great" as a "pour that I'm still thinking about the next day," this one definitely made it into that "Great" tier.
Can't wait to explore some more Campbelltown releases!
