Ardbeg Uigeadail

Unlike any other peated whisky

Reviewed by Thornunculus

1st review because of the encouraging comments in this subreddit. This is incredible whisky that I didn't believe I'd like as much as people tend to suggest. I was wrong. I was not expecting to be blown away.

0.7 (Amber)

Nose

It's brazen. I smell peat of course, smoked ham (maybe candied bacon?), burnt raisins, a bit of that TCP bandaid-y that I get from Laphroaig. Maybe an oily baseball glove and some spicy pepper flakes like I'd sprinkle on pizza or pasta.

Palate

Smoke, salty caramel/chocolate - not the same chocolate I get from Glen Scotia, burnt Fluff (it's like marshmallow spread). It feels creamy and oily in my mouth. To sound like "that guy"- the best way I can describe the taste is if I took a nice sherry and wrapped it up in a charred meat blanket with some salt and citrus-y things going on.

Finish

Good length, more smoke, pretty smooth and balanced between sweet and smoke again.

Wasn't expecting this to blow me away. I've had Laphroaig 10, Laphroaig 10 CS, Laphroaig Cardeis Triple Wood, Lagavulin 16, and Caol Ila. None of them are even close to this bottle.
