Somewhat of a Reddit favorite! Whenever there's a review it's bound to be a positive one. This first volume of "The Explorers Series" was bottled in 2018.
0.9 (Amontillado sherry)
Nose
Fresh and tropical. Marmalade, zest. Also a bit of brine, and I can easily see myself mistaking this nose for an Old Pulteney. Digging a bit deeper I get mostly pineapple but also plums. Excellent nose.
Palate
Spicy and dry. Best in small doses! Fruity and citric, lots of flavor. Far from a sherry bomb, don't go searching for this trying to find tons of Oloroso influence. It's there, but not at the front.
Finish
A large and spicy kick giving way to a winey finish that manages to transition again into more tropical fruits, closing the circle nicely. Fairly drawn out finish. Long, without being just tannic and dry at the end which often happens.
It's powerful, bordering on hot. Some water might have helped of course, but I found that treading lightly was enough to stay on the right side of "too spicy". Well done, well integrated, fantastic nose, nice freshness. I look forward to revisiting this further down the bottle.
