Ardmore Gordon & MacPhail Reserve 1991

One Trick Pony

Bought a sample without knowing anything at all about Ardmore or this expression. I'll check out the details after the review, so this is pretty much a blind tasting. It's a Gordon & MacPhail bottling which should indicate at least some quality, we'll see!

Pale staw (0.2) - very light

Nose

A dry, grassy aroma with a small amount of spice. A little sweetness without any fruit, so I would guess this is from an ex-bourbon cask.

Palate

More grass and hay. An ever so slight hint of peat, but it's clearly noticeable.

Finish

Not that much of a difference from the palate - a dry aftertaste with a dash of spice.

It's absolutely well put together and it stays within its coloring lines. If you're into that dry, grassy profile this one is clearly for you. It's not something I'd seek out again though as there's honestly not much else happening here, so I'll be going with a "decent" rating.
