I've had quite a few Old Pulteneys, but not many from independent bottlers.
0.2 (Pale staw)
Nose
Fresh apples, quite a sting, nuttiness at the bottom. Dates.
Palate
Big, in-your-face taste. Hazelnut, honey. Spicy and a little harsh.
Finish
Wood spice, very oaky. Clear black pepper. Stewed apples.
Quite unusual for a bourbon finish, and not very much in character for Pulteney either. Fun - but rather unbalanced and a bit too peppery for my tastes. Gets a little better with water - sweeter and with almost a PX spiciness - but the bottom line remains. That said - pungent, tasty, interesting.
