I'm a sucker for expressions that are known to be discontinued in the near future, and that's exactly the case with the Balblair Vintage range. The distillery is replacing their entire core range and I could not resist snagging a bottle before it was too late.
0.8 (Deep gold)
Nose
Smells like a bourbon matured whisky should. Citrus and vanilla as one could expect. Faint hints of cookie dough.
Palate
Quite creamy mouthfeel. Warm spices, not too sharp.
Finish
Vanilla and wood. Pears, perhaps some raisins. The finish gives an encore just when it first seemed to fade out, and the second wave hangs around for some time. Just a tad bitterness. Excellent!
It's a very well rounded whisky, definitely tasty. I wouldn't have guessed that it's 26 or 27 years old, but since the price is very good for such a distinguished age, I'm totally alright with that. I'm glad I got a bottle and bit sad that it's discontinued.
