I was just supposed to transfer the last drams of this into smaller bottles for safekeeping, and there was just a tiny bit left. Perfect amount for a review, actually.
Selected, filled and bought during a warehouse tasting at Cadenhead's in Campbeltown. Super biased, of course! We had 6-7 drams while drunkenly stumbling around in the musty warehouse after touring Springbank, so it's hard to recreate that exact experience. Still, there's some whisky left and I'm thankful for that!
0.6 (Old gold)
Nose
Lively, fresh, fruity, peppery. Quite some leather and tobacco. Bit of salt.
Palate
Malty, full, thick. Hints of menthol, but predominantly lots of fresh fruit. Peach gummy candy.
Finish
The finish is flirting with some cooked fruits and typical sherry flavors without going all the way. Spicy but no pepper overload. Goes on for ages and ends with some tobacco and wood.
Well, again, very biased. I'm still very happy with my choice of bottle even after the mold has left my nostrils and the effect of the other handful of drams have worn off since long. A fantastic and powerful ex-bourbon whisky.
