Tasting 24 samples totally blind in December 2020, you can find more here. All notes except the very last few sentences are written before reveal. Disclaimer: These are all very small drams, around 1.5 cl each, so doing a proper tasting is challenging. I'll do my best!
0.7 (Amber)
Nose
Peat! Meaty, smoked ham, grass, salt. Quite powerful.
Palate
Metallic, and then well-rounded and subtle.
Finish
A bit thinner than the nose suggests. Some vanilla. Medium length.
Gorgeous nose, alright (albeit a little too metallic) palate and an OK finish.
Guess: Let's guess the peat! Probably not Laphroaig or Ardbeg, not powerful enough. Same thing with Kilchoman. Maybe Lagavulin 16, Caol Ila 12 or any non-Islay bourbon-barrel-matured entry-level moderately-peated whisky?
Reveal: Ah, Ardbeg 10! I was clearly wrong there, but I expected a bit more oomph from Ardbeg to be honest. I've had it before but it was evidently not memorable enough. I'm also hopelessly bad at identifying peat, so there's that.
Check out my other advent tastings!
